A leading Iranian religious figure welcomed Pope Francis’s recent comments in which he denied that Islam is tied to terrorist violence.
While I know I am bound by charity and forum rules to no undue skepticism about someone’s veracity, it’s difficult for me to trust the sincerity of the Ayatollah’s words. It’s Iran, and some strains of Islam believe it’s ok to lie in the service of jihad. Distrust is a difficult thing to overcome. Perhaps I’m wrong, and this Ayatollah is moderate.
Pope Francis shows the same charity demonstrated by St. Francis who visited the Sultan.
