Blood test for 14 month old daughter

#1

My daughter has to have a blood test tomorrow. She has had an odd, maple syrup smell for a couple of days. It was weird enough that I called the doctor and was told that it can be a symptom of a serious metabolic disease. I’m trying not to freak out about this. Prayer would be appreciated! Her name is Grace.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

That was So irresponsible of whomever told you that!
Of course I will pray for you and your daughter, however I think you should fire your doctor.
You can google metabolic disease maple sugar odor to see what the internet might tell you but please don’t fret over some idle words that were thrown out there without
any concrete evidence.
You’re a good and observant parent, btw.

I’ll certainly be praying for Grace (and for her worried parents!)

Please know that there are apparently many perfectly healthy children with this odd “symptom”. Have you taken fenugreek to help with milk production if you’re nursing? Also, does she eat lots of fruit? These are a few of the causes I’ve read about; the metabolic disorder usually produces pronounced symptoms.

So, try not to worry (MUCH easier said than done, I know) and know that many prayers are being said.

Dear Lord, please look compassionately on this family.
As little grace has only had the maple syrup odour for a couple of days, hopefully it is due to some transient cause.
Please give her mother peace and reassurance, and health to baby Grace.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now, and at the hour of our death. Amen

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us, and increase Your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments we might not despair, nor become despondent,
but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is love and mercy itself

Praying very hard for precious Grace!

I don’t think it was irresponsible at all. I have a doctor because I don’t know about all the possible causes of illness. They didn’t tell me she had this disease, only that she should be tested to make sure it wasn’t anything serious.

Thank you all for your prayers. I will update tomorrow after we talk to the doctor.

I am praying for Grace. As the father of healthy 11 year old twin girls who were born 3 months premature with numerous ailments, I can certainly relate to your anxiety. We were frightened in every imaginable way by many doctors, some who should have remained silent. Through it all, my wife and I prayed and asked everyone imaginable to pray also. Somehow we found peace (although not all of the time) by accepting God’s will, whatever that may be.

The point I’m trying to make is that I’ve had doctors say many scary things about my girls’ health and they are fine. Some doctors have a better bedside manner than others. In any case, it’s good to play it safe and get the tests even though it’s frightening.

I’ll be praying…

God Bless,
Gary
