We can, actually. Jesus said:
John 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
So, those who believe in Jesus, on the authority of the Church or their parents, are more blessed than those who question and contest their witness.
Luke 10:16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
But this is problematic, De_Maria. We first have to JUDGE that the Church rightly interprets Scripture.
The Church does not interpret Scripture. Catholic Doctrine is the basis of Scripture. Therefore, the Catholic Church Teaches her Doctrines through Scripture. The Catholic Church wrote the New Testament and selected the books of the Old Testament which would be included in the Bible.
The most common reason that some people don’t understand Scripture, is because they are not thoroughly grounded in Catholic Doctrine.
But, I understand what you mean, if you come from a hostile perspective, yes, you do. I did and I had to do it. And whenever you’re ready, we can go through any verses that you think contradict Catholic Doctrine. I will show you that it is your understanding of the verse which is false, not the Catholic Doctrine.
