California bishop considered for sainthood

Four years after the opening of the beatification process of Auxiliary Bishop Alphonse Gallegos, the Diocese of Sacramento has submitted 1,700 pages worth of testimony to the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints. Born in 1931, Bishop Gallegos was ordained a priest of the Order of Augustinian Recollects in 1958 and served as Auxiliary Bishop of Sacramento from 1981 until his 1991 death in an automobile collision.

That’s cool. Thanks for the post, Eucharisted.

My husband was confirmed by Bishop Gallegos around 1990. Amazing to think that he was in the presence of a saint.

Ya welcoming.

What a blessing!

Yes, a blessing indeed! His father filmed the entire Mass and we watched it recently. My husband also remembers his funeral in downtown Sacramento.
