Call Me Maybe

Apparently the song “Call Me Maybe” is a huge hit in America. I can’t say I really get it, it’s one of the shallowest love songs I’ve ever heard.

On the other hand, there are some great parodies out there (Join Me Maybe - Star Wars, Time Travel Maybe - Dr. Who). So, I thought I’d write my own Catholic version.

Don’t you ever wonder
If there was something out there
For you to always know
But never in your way

Don’t trade your soul for a wish
Because there’s something you’ll miss
A greater relationship
That’s never in your way

Refrain:
[Grace, here, for you always
Love superabundent
But all that I’m won’dring
Is why you’re fighting it!

I’ve always known you
And I’m not crazy
I’m just your saviour
Believe me maybe

And I’ve been waiting
for you baby!
'cause I’m your saviour
Believe me maybe

I’ve always known you
And I’m not crazy
I’m just your saviour
Believe me maybe

And all the other ones
Are just man-made
'cause I’m your saviour
Believe me maybe]

You’re taking time to reflect
But don’t think too much 'bout it
'cause in the very end
You’ll just get in your way

What are you waiting for?
Ya know what I did for you?
It not that easy to do
The Cross is on your way

[Refrain]

Before He came into my life
I was just so lost
I was just so lost
I was just so so lost

Before He came into my life
I was just so lost
And it is true that
I was just so so lost

It might not be that
easy baby!
But He’s the saviour
Believe Him maybe

Hey I just met you
And I’m not crazy
'cause You’re my Saviour
Believe it baby!

And all the other ones
Are just man-made
'cause He’s the Saviour
Believe it baby!

Before He came into my life
I was just so lost
I was just so lost
I was just so so lost

Before He came into my life
I was just so lost
And that’s the whole truth.

Believe it baby!

(in case anyone’s confused, the perspective shifts after the 2nd refrain)

Since when do people listen to a song because of the words or the message? It’s just catchy, but I get why a lot of people are sick of it.

Its just a “fun” catchy summer tune. Nothing more to consider.

The song is quite catchy and happy. I like it.

I also like your version, as well as …

They may not listen because of the lyrics, but lyrics, if understood, definitely stick in the head! It’s the way we are made.

I still can’t say I really get it, but I apologize if I’ve offended anyone.

Anyways, that was an after-thought comment on my part, it’s wasn’t the reason why I did this. I wrote it because there are other parody versions of the song and I thought it would be interesting to see if I could write a Catholic-Christian version.

I like it because it’s so fun and poppy, and not totally raunchy

It’s super catchy! I like this version as well…

I think it’s a cute song.

Funny, I never would have categorized it as a love song.

I think the original song is kind of lame. That is what makes all the parodies so funny.

Apparently the song “Call Me Maybe” is a huge hit in America. I can’t say I really get it, it’s one of the shallowest love songs I’ve ever heard.

Its not a love song, its an I’m interested in you song. Not ever song has to be about eternal love for it to be valid. This song is so popular because everyone can relate too it. I.e meeting someone who interests you, you can’t love them yet (you don’t know them) but you know something captures your attention and you want the opportunity to get to know them.

Its a huge risk though showing interest that quickly, but you don’t want to not see them again so you casually give them your number and say “call me maybe?”

We have almost all of us been there in one way or another, and its fun to have the experience put into words.

The best music is about life and experiences. And thats what this song talks about a real experience everyone faces at one point in time…And as for the experience being shallow. Well love starts somewhere…

I even found a Hatsune Miku version of this song:

Also, this song needs more Catholic versions.
