I know a widower can date and even marry a widow. But can a Catholic widower date a non-Catholic divorcee?
Generally speaking, if a non-Catholic divorcee is considering a Catholic as a potential husband, she will need to place her marriage case before the marriage tribunal to be certain the Catholic is free to marry her. A Catholic man who is considering various women for potential courtship should consider whether they are currently free to marry him should the relationship eventually progress to that point. Although she is civilly divorced, a divorcee should be presumed married in the eyes of the Church unless or until the Church has determined otherwise by a decree of nullity.
