Can I chose an Eastern Orthodox Godparent?

#1

I am the Godmother to a child whose parents are Ukrainian Orthodox. They know I would raise their child Catholic, should they pass away.

Would I be permitted to chose one of them as a Godparent for my child one day? One of them is baptised as a Catholic but now attends Orthodox masses and has essentially converted.

I know they would understand if I was not allowed to have them be the Godparents, but what if they agree to raise the child Catholic?

Sina,

These links should answer your questions. Both answers address Catholics standing as godparents in Eastern Orthodox Churches and vice versa. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by these links, please contact Catholic Answers directly.
