In the past I have always tried to take Good Friday off from work and we have not let our children participate in activities on that day. This year, I may not be able to avoid working and our oldest child has an event scheduled. Are there any rules or regulations forbidding work/activities on this day?
Although it certainly can be meritorious to avoid work and unnecessary extracurricular activities on Good Friday in honor of the solemnity of the day, the Church does not require it. And because Good Friday is one of the two days of the year on which Mass is not celebrated – the other being Holy Saturday – it is not a holy day of obligation.
