Can the devil (or demons) know your thoughts?

#1

Pretty straightforward questions…can they read your mind or just hear what you say?

Thanks!!!

No, he can’t.

They CAN read your mind, but it’s not automatic. If you block your thoughts by focusing on Jesus, Mary, or some prayer, then they cannot read your thoughts.

Citation, please? I’m more inclined to believe Michelle Arnold’s post, which specifically states they CANNOT.

However, he is also a finite creature and therefore does not have divine attributes like omniscience or omnipotence. In short, Satan cannot read minds.

So how would the devil tempt you then? What you’re saying is the devil cannot read your mind - so the devil would not know in that case that, say, I’m thinking of doing something really bad, right? But then you would say that me thinking of doing something really bad is the devil tempting me? Genuinely confused

Heck yeah, How do you think that the bad ones get in there. The devil knows your weakness and knows when to attack. Unfortunately the devil does have powers, evil ones.

He will give you whatever you want as long as he can control you. then after he gives you what you want he watches you destory yourself with it. Then he sits back and laughs.

Think about it if he didnt know your thoughts how could he tempt you, How would he know what to tempt you with.

But he cant control you, only if you give yourself to him. thats why its better to stay with God, if Gods around he will not be there. Hes afraid of God. Because God is the Almighty and he knows it!

Ok- the devil cannot read our thoughts. Only God can do that.

However, the devil is a fallen angel. Angels are far, far more intelligent than we ever will be. They also are not constrained by space and time like we are. That adds up to the devil being able to watch us and our actions and use them against us. Any casino magician can to the same. They observe our actions, and based on what they know about human nature, make guesses that are so well informed as to seem as if they read our mind. It doesn’t take a supremely intelligent being to watch a man watch a woman and to whisper lustful suggestions. It’s not about mind reading. It’s about eons of studying fallen human nature.

It is a mistake to underestimate both Satan’s intelligence and his hatred for us. However, it is also a mistake to attribute qualities to him that are reserved for God alone.

From our own fallen nautre.

The devil knows your weakness and knows when to attack. Unfortunately the devil does have powers, evil ones.

He will give you whatever you want as long as he can control you. then after he gives you what you want he watches you destory yourself with it. Then he sits back and laughs.

This has nothing to do with a false ability to read minds. It has everything to do with him studying humanity in general and the individual in specific to learn their weaknesses through their actions.

Think about it if he didnt know your thoughts how could he tempt you, How would he know what to tempt you with.

By observation. It doesn’t take a genius to watch a person struggle with masturbation to know that temptations of a sexual nature will be a hard one to resist. Or to watch someone with a short temper and know to tempt them in that manner.

But he cant control you, only if you give yourself to him. thats why its better to stay with God, if Gods around he will not be there. Hes afraid of God. Because God is the Almighty and he knows it!

True.

Sorry according to the web-site above i was wrong. He cant read our minds, but he can sure tempt us. He uses every other evil power he has.

#10

satan and demons cannot read your mind but if you speak something out loud I am sure they know what you say and I am also sure they see your actions. Based on what they know of you, of what you say and do, they can plant things in your mind. They can suggest things to your mind and they can tempt you. They are very smart in their deceptions and attacks. But always remember, Jesus is the Strong One of Israel Who can never be defeated. He can easily dispatch those demons who are strong then we are by ourselves.

Pax Christi tecum.

I read the replies to the question but is there any reference to this in a place of authority. I need that in order to reply to someone insisting that this is true. She has a preoccupation with evil spirits.

#12

he can only read your mind if you want him to. he can guess pretty well sometimes, and he can also know the suggestions that he places in your mind. nothing to worry about though, you’ve been experianceing all he can do to you all of your life

#13

The Bible nor doctrine give any answer to your question. Whatever opinion is expressed in this thread is only speculation. Yes they can. That’s my guess. What’s yours?

#14

I like Michelle Arnold’s response:

Because he is a pure spiritual being and because of his vastly superior angelic intelligence, Satan is extremely powerful and so human beings should not make the mistake of underestimating him. However, he is also a finite creature and therefore does not have divine attributes like omniscience or omnipotence. In short, Satan cannot read minds.

#15

On a similar note, can angels and saints hear our silent prayers?

#16

Yes, because God communicates those to them.

Everything I’ve read indicates that demons cannot read your mind per se but due to their extraordinary intelligence can pretty much figure it out–by observation, by picking up on even the most subtle biological feedback things (a lie detector has nothing on them), facial expressions, etc.

At first I myself thought that the devil could read your thoughts, them I saw I was wrong. Then I really started to think about it, If God said nobody could take away our free will, giving the devil the power to read our thought would in a way take away our free will. It would in a way give him a certain control over us, or a certain advantage. And think about it God would never give the devil any advantage over us. He would never give the devil that power. So that would be the easiest answer why the devil cannnot know our thoughts. But I agree he can see how we act, and what our weakness is, but then anyone who studied us could. Or followed us around. Think about it we know eachothers weakness. Who does not know how to get to others, we know our kids, our husbands, etc.

#18

My understanding also is the the devil cannot read your thoughts. They are private. Only God knows them and I believe the reason unspoken silent prayers to Saints can be heard is because God transmits them.

But the evil one one is very clever so he can probably read contenances and other clues, including the kind we may not be aware of, so the enemy is likely sharp in knowing certain things that are likely to be in our thoughts at times. For example he might be able to “read” a vulnerable moment in us in order to make his evil suggestions. Think of when you just “know” what a person is thinking, either becaue you know how they operate or you can see the expression on their face.

I fully trust that my prayers outloud to Jesus, including my confessions of my weaknesses of faith or hope, are fully protected. I am confident I am safe *always *saying aloud to the Lord whatever I want, and that he will protect me.

#19

Whoops. It looks like everything I said had already been said.

if you want them to or if God allows
