Can women be canon lawyers?

I’ve heard a few canon lawyers speak on the Catholic Answers Live radio program and wondered how one goes about becoming a canon lawyer. Do you have to be male (those that I heard where all men)?

I’m a cradle Catholic and have been a practicing civil lawyer for almost ten years. Canon law has always interested me.

Canon law is not limited to men; women may be canon lawyers, as well. For more information about canon lawyers and the training necessary to become one, please see What Canon Lawyers Are and Aren’t by Dr. Edward Peters, a canon lawyer, and the School of Canon Law at Catholic University of America.
