Can you help me explain infant baptism?

I really haven’t given it much thought for such a while…but I work with a very nice lady who is protestant…and her husband is a minister…and she metioned something about someone being baptised at age 14 …the subject came up…ofcourse she mentioned that ‘they’ believed that the person had to be able to acknowledge verbally…I mentioned the Sacrament of Confirmation …but…she is from a non denominational church and I don’t really spend a great deal of time trying to explain Catholicism…tks…
