Can you help me get it

Brothers and sisters,

i come to you a sinner in tears because i keep failling in the area of abstinence from pornography and sexual dialogue.

i think i wouldnt have this problem if i just “got it” that man and woman are meant for marriage which is binding… there are times when i do… when i dont, get it , i seem to think sex is ok… im close to being there ( and finishing my sinful habits)

some good insight pleeeease

God only dwells in a pure heart. Keep it pure for Him. There are many practises that will strengthen your will against temptations to impurity. For example:

  • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
  • Three Hail Marys every morning and evening
  • Frequently invoke Our Lady’s intercession, esp. when tempted
  • Meditate on the incorruptible beauty of Heaven
  • Moritfy your senses e.g. instead of looking at every person that catches your eye, look away and say a prayer; forego certain pleasures in eating etc.

Much more could be said, but the most important thing is that you rely on and cooperate with God’s grace, realising that He ardently desires your soul to be His dwelling-place. Our debt of gratitude is great.

Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God.

you are not alone in this.

it is an addiction, i found this information to be helpful.

Hi pwlj_christ87,

Diary of St Faustina -
**
“My daughter, know that My Heart is mercy itself. From this sea of mercy, graces flow out upon the whole world. No soul that has approached Me has ever gone away unconsoled. All misery gets buried in the depths of My mercy, and every saving and sanctifying grace flows from this fountain…” **(Diary, 1777).
**
“Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My mercy. Oh, how much I am hurt by a soul’s distrust! Such a soul professes that I am Holy and Just, but does not believe that I am Mercy and does not trust in My Goodness. Even the devils glorify My Justice but do not believe in My Goodness” **(Diary, 300).

"My mercy is greater than your sins and those of the entire world. Who can measure the extent of my goodness? For you I descended from heaven to earth; for you I allowed myself to be nailed to the cross; for you I let my Sacred Heart be pierced with a lance, thus opening wide the source of mercy for you. Come, then, with trust to draw graces from this fountain. I never reject a contrite heart. Your misery has disappeared in the depths of My mercy" (Diary, 1485).

**Oh, if sinners knew My mercy, they would not perish in such great numbers. Tell sinful souls not to be afraid to approach Me; speak to them of My great mercy" **(Diary, 1396).

I hope you wont mind if I share with you the things that helped me greatly to quit and remain chaste.

Consider this:

Right now one of the greatest growing human rights violations spreading throughout the world is trafficing humans as “sex slaves”

There is an ever growing number of women being forced into sex acts for profit.

Much pornography involves an older person taking advantage of a very young person, or taking advantage of an intoxicated person, or betraying an ex.

Thanks to pornography people can literally rape for profit now, and they do.

People often fill very forced into doing pornography even when it is entirely consensual.

Lust (like all other sin) is an expression of cruelty.

It changes people from being a person into being a thing.

Everytime you click on one of those sites, it’s visitors number increases, and thus it makes greater profits (even if it isn’t a subscribed to site).

Realizing that looking at pornography really and truly does increase cruelty throughout the world (not to mention within myself) is what really helped me to see the light.

I second the three Hail Mary’s and will pray for you.

Praying for you, Brother. May the Holy Spirit strengthen you in this struggle.

As for advice, look for ways that you can avoid the situations or behaviors that lead up to these sins. That won’t solve the whole problem, but it is a good place to start,

Great answers!

For me, at first, the realization that God is weatching always, along w my guardian Angel, would at least make me aware of the fact that I was being tempted. Then I’d be aware of it enough to willingly act to move away from it and step closer to God.

Yes, good ol’ Catholic Guilt still works! Especially when you’re still trying to come to grips with your own self control. Even though it’s a slavish mentality to avoid doing something because of fear of punishment instead of lovingly avoiding the sin as would be the goal. But, for now take refuge in the gift of the Holy Spirit; fear of God.
Put up icons everywhere. Keep yourself busy. Pray pray pray. Icon wallpaper keeps you focussed when you flip on the phone. Eventually, it won’t be easy but you’ll be avoiding sin out our love, not fear.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you strength & fortitude to overcome your temptations.

Frequent Confession. Rosary. Meditate on the Passion. Look into joining the Confraternity of Angelic Warfare.

Realize this is a cause for many relationship break-ups. And yes, as stated so well before women and other people are hurt by this.

It is a very good thing you want so much go stop. I’ll pray for you. God bless you.

Realize that sex is a gift from God, but it is only for a man and women who have been bound together in Holy Matrimony. God wants us to realize that sex is not a recreational sport, but a very holy bond. If we give in to lust we are behaving like animals who can’t control their passions. Looking at pornography causes us to see others as objects to be used, rather than people to be loved as God created them.

Through God’s mercy, and practice of prayer and virtue, you can be free from these addictions. All you need to do is choose Him and keep Him as the center of your life.

With pornography, consider that this is somebody’s daughter, possibly sister, girlfriend or even wife.

Would you want your daughter in this business? By participating in it, it’s promoting it, assuring that it continue.

We are all temples of the Holy Spirit, created in the image and likeness of God. We were given the 10 commandments, and God said if we loved him to obey the commandments.

I realize the it pornography and all the rest is very acceptable. However, it has ramifications. Pornography has damaged many a marriage, because the man looks at these beautiful, young, very attractive women. The images are of models, and their imperfections can be removed with a computer program. So, the girlfriends and wives today are often trying to live up to impossible expectations. How can they ever compete with that?

The women in those also often are surgically alterred to appear even more attractive.

Good and holy people strive to be chaste and modest. Pornography goes against those virtues, tempts men to sin.

Anyone involved in this is committing a mortal sin. A mortal sin means that all concerned risk going to hell for all eternity. This is very offensive to God. By watching, or buying, these things, it encourages these young ladies to continue in this line of work. If everyone would simply boycott it, it would eventually simpy dry up on its own.

It’s really a form of infidelity among other things, using the women as sex objects, nothing more.

These are fantasy women. Probably one of the best ways is to develop a real relationship with a real woman, instead.
