Card. Burke: "Biden is not a Catholic in good standing..."

Catholics, do you really want to support “Catholics” who self-appropriate the Name of the Church of our Lord, but have no interest in living it? Isn’t “cafeteria Catholicism” a travesty, a desecration, indeed a lie and a charade - a masquerade - a hypocrisy?

Biden during the debate last night referred to himself as an “Irish Catholic”. I wish he had added, “NOT one, however, who is faithful to the Faith.” He owes an apology to the Church AND to the Irish people, for abusing their good name.

Cardinal Burke: Biden should not receive Holy Communion (CNA - Sept 29, 2020)

Biden “is not a Catholic in good standing and he should not approach to receive Holy Communion,” Burke said in an Aug. 31 interview with Thomas McKenna, who as head of an organization called Catholic Action for Faith and Family periodically conducts interviews with the cardinal.

“This is not a political statement, I don’t intend to get involved in recommending any candidate for office, but simply to state that a Catholic may not support abortion in any shape or form because it is one of the most grievous sins against human life, and has always been considered to be intrinsically evil and therefore to in any way support the act is a mortal sin.”

Asked specifically about Biden, Burke said he “has not only been actively supporting procured abortion in our country but has announced publicly in his campaign that he intends to make the practice of procured abortion available to everyone in the widest possible form and to repeal the restrictions on this practice which have been put in place.”

In the interview released this week, Burke responded to those who say that Catholics ought not judge the interior dispositions of pro-choice poltiicians…

“We judge people on the basis of objective facts. On their actions, their public record, their public statements, and certainly, Vice President Biden hasn’t left any doubt in anyone’s mind what his position is. He clearly knows what the Church’s teaching is,” [sic “Biden said” - probably intending “Burke said”].

“God put an order into the world, killing, directly killing an unborn human life is evil no matter how you look at it…,” Burke added.

“Our heart isn’t something that’s hidden, our heart manifests itself in our actions. As our Lord said, we know the tree by its fruit,” the cardinal said.

“Catholics going around announcing themselves, and then on the other hand being 100% in favor of abortion, or in favor of abortion in any way, give a great scandal,” Burke said.

“The Church’s teaching on aboriton will never change because it’s part of the natural moral law. It’s part of the law which God has written on every human heart, namely that human life is to be safeguarded, and protected and promoted.”

And so no further defense of the unborn is needed? The crime continues; the Democrats promoting it continue, the “Catholic” Democrats promoting it continue… But it’s “old news” so move on? I don’t think so. As long as a window of opportunity to speak for those with no voice is open, let those who hunger for justice continue to cry out. Night is coming when no man can work…

You’re free to say whatever you want, but the point is that there are like 4000 threads, some of started by you, addressing Biden and Trump and Catholicism and all the rest. We really don’t need one more.

“We” ? Do you speak for a group? Who is this group?

Looking at polls from the past five, ten, twenty years, I think that a small minority of Catholics would be considered “Catholics in good standing” when one looks at issues of birth control, marriage, and believing in the Real Presence.

Thanks fide, for continuing to speak out.

I also was sorry to hear Biden make reference to his being an “Irish Catholic” – it is a shame for him to forget that he is not being faithful to the tenets of His Faith as Cardinal Burke and others have said.

Mr. Biden seems to have forgotten how many “Irish Catholics” in his ancestry, were willing to die for their faith and to die to protect the Shepherds who risked their lives also to offer Masses when they were being hunted by those who were persecuting the Catholic Church.

Irish Catholic Families have traditionally been large families – I grewn up in one. Both my Paternal and Maternal Grandparents were born in Ireland and passed on the Faith to us – how grateful I am for my Catholic roots! It hurts deeply to see Catholics today become so willing to love the world and its power. It is loving the lies of satan to choose death over Life. I cannot understand how Catholics can defend or overlook the horror of the Democratic Platform of abortion on demand – killing innocent and defenseless unborn children and even selling their tiny body parts!

God blessed the United Sates of America in so many ways and enabled this Country to be a blessing to others. How can we let it turn away from being “One Nation under God”? We need to keep praying for the Church that her Shepherds will not be like the “hired men” Jesus speaks of in the Gospel who run when they see the wolf coming. The Laity as well need to fight the enemy “who prowles around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.” as St. Peter wrote to the early Christians. We must remain steadfast. We must also remember to pray through the intercession of Mary Who is the Protectress of the unborn and Mother of the Church! Keep speaking out, fide, too many Catholics are asleep!

We as in CAF. Do we really need one more flowery post on why Biden isn’t a good Catholic? How about twenty more threads about whether voting for him is a mortal sin?

Why can’t we just keep this stuff in a few of the ongoing threads instead of letting it leak all over the forums?

I agree with RTG.

I’m glad the Gospels weren’t kept from leaking as you put it.

You are sadly correct - many, many self-proclaimed “Catholics” claim the name, but define it as they please. And the result is a shameful degrading of the name “Catholic Christian.” Jesus paid a very, very high price for HIs Church!!! Yet she is treated shamefully.

I’m in CAF. You are not speaking for me. Why don’t you say, “Some of us on CAF think…”? If you’re not interested in this particular thread, why are you reading and responding?

But, you know, Christ died for all of those people, and for you and me.

Sometimes we get really upset about the “purity of the brand”, but, since we are all sinners and fall short of the Glory of God, the whole glass houses thing comes up.

There are often mitigating circumstances but I think those you see at Church are Catholics in good standing. You attend Mass regularly. Fairly simple.

I don’t know what you are saying in the “glass houses” sentence -
But yes, Jesus died for all, and thus gave all the possibility of salvation by grace, for any and all who will seek - and thus find - and then treasure the holy saving Truth of God in Christ.

But the many “cafeteria Catholics” who do not treasure - do not even value - the precious Church He created on the Cross - how ugly is their “choice”! And how they muddy the waters for those truly seeking Him in His Holy Church! The scandal of pro-choice “Catholics” delights the evil one, and adds to the burden on His faithful ones - to what end? To their spiritual adultery with the gods of this passing world, a cancer of the soul.

As I told before in another thread as a Catholic I don’t feel represented by Democrats or Republicans. Yes, abortion is a very big issue but sometimes I feel that abortion is used to ‘hold as hostage’ the Catholic vote. After all historically Stalin was against abortion too but this fact would not make me think he was a great politician.

Don’t be pedantic. It’s a colloquialism and you know it.

I’m responding to tell you that, in my opinion, you’re beating a dead horse here. There are threads about threads to discuss this stuff and it’s starting to crowd out everything else. You already have an ongoing thread about Biden and Catholicism.

Frankly, it also seems like you’re kind of in love with your own prose and just want to write flowery paragraph upon paragraph analyzing what is essentially the same issue in multiple threads.

With that, I’m out. Have fun.

Most of us, at one time or another in our life, could probably be put in the “not in good standing” bucket. If not, good for you.

And Jesus died for their choice, meaning they can be forgiven.

Convince them they are wrong. Pray for them.

Are you saying Joe Biden fits this definition?

I was floored by that comment from him because he accused to the President of being hateful towards “Irish Catholics.”

Whatever anyone wants to say about Trump, he has been a friend to Catholics and I don’t know where Biden gets the idea that Trump is hateful towards Irish Catholics???

Now a heretical Catholic like Biden MIGHT get the idea that Trump is hateful towards pro abortion heretics, but come on.

Biden should be publicly excommunicated as he tried to subliminally tell Catholics that the Trump hates Catholics. Horrible.

If that’s true, it just means the majority are wrong.
