Caterina Benincasa Monastery, Delaware

A blessed feast of St. Catherine of Siena!

This monastery named for her is a relatively new foundation. One of the nuns was the superior at Holy Name OP Monastery in Cincinnati, OH, when it closed in 1988.

The sisters have announced that they will close this monastery and combine with the one in Springfield, Illinois. New Castle’s suppression will take place sometime this fall.

There had been only 3 nuns at this monastery, and not many vocations.

Blessings,
Cloisters

The monastery officially closed this past weekend. Here is a video and story:

Srs Mary Columba and Mary Grace were both at Holy Name in Cincinnati when it was suppressed in the late 1980s. Sr. Mary Columba was the superior at the time of that closing. (Holy Name’s site is now home to two new houses).
