Chicago Tribune's Recent Op-Eds

Where is Sgt Joe Friday w/ his line "Facts, just the facts, mam"? But for the smug liberal facts be damned!

The first editorial says; "The church's problem is, above all, theological and religious. Its core difficulty is that rather than drawing on its Christian resources, the church has acted almost entirely on the basis of this world's imperatives and standards.

It has worried about lawsuits. It has worried about its image. It has worried about itself as an institution and about protecting its leaders from public scandal. In so doing, it has made millions of Catholics righteously furious and aggravated every one of its problems."

i agree!

The second editorial is another matter.

**The poor misguided woman, Katha Politt, who wrote it, is surely delusional. She wrote; "The same institution that has dealt so indulgently with its ordained pedophiles had no problem excommunicating a Brazilian mother who sought an abortion for her 9-year-old daughter, raped and impregnated with twins by her stepfather, or pushing for laws in El Salvador, Nicaragua and Chile banning abortion even to save the woman's life."

First, while any & all abuse is unacceptable, i'm sure Ms. Politt would be the first to scream if the Church had excommunicated all of the gay priests who were guilty of sexual abuse. i agree with her that the Bishops were negligent & weak in dealing with these abusive gay priests!**

*All irrational emotion aside, the Catholic Church's teaching that abortion is never acceptable & is always a grave evil, & that anyone who formally cooperates in the murder of an innocent baby, no matter what their weak justification could be, is liable to be excommunicated is morally correct!

**]A grandmother, unnecessarily & willingly murdering her grandchild by abortion is always an unthinkable evil!

Ms. Politt's second point that the Catholic Church pushed for outlawing abortion even if the mother's life is at risk is another bold faced lie! The Catholic Church has always correctly taught that the life of the mother is preeminent, but that directly murdering a baby by abortion is never acceptable! If all morally acceptable means available are used to save the mother's life & the baby dies in the process, without the direct action of murdering the baby through abortion, then no direct harm has been done!!!

**According to the teaching of the Catholic Church, the stepfather would also be excommunicated for his horrible sexual abuse, once proven!

The GOOD NEWS is that everyone here is eligible for MERCY! For forgiveness from God if they do as Jesus taught us; **

"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel." (Mk 1:15)
