Bishop Vincent Zhu Weifang of Wenzhou, China, who spent more than 20 years in prison camps, has died at the age of 90.
May God rest his soul.
Praying for the repose of his soul & for his family.
It would be a great leap forward if the Chinese government would simply allow the Catholic Church to exist openly in China without government interference.
…except that would be a violation of a) Communism’s atheist principles (which makes me wonder why it even bothers with the Chinese Patriotic Catholic* Association at all, since it knows it’s a farce), and b) the Chinese Communist Party’s self-preservation instinct (cf. Poland).
Not that it would be a bad idea; it’s just never going to happen with the people in charge.
*Patriotic Catholic. “Devoted to one’s country universal”. Hm.
