Christopher Hitchens Condemns and Mocks Mother Teresa

‘The woman was a fanatic and a fundamentalist and a fraud, and millions of people are much worse off because of her life’.

NEW YORK, NY (Catholic League) - On October 30, atheist Christopher Hitchens appeared on Dennis Miller’s Internet radio show condemning Mother Teresa, yet again.

Here is one of his choice statements: “The woman was a fanatic and a fundamentalist and a fraud, and millions of people are much worse off because of her life, and it’s a shame there is no hell for your ***** to go to.”

**Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded today:
"I once told Hitchens that one of the real reasons he hates Mother Teresa has to do with his socialist ideology: he believes the state should care for the poor, not voluntary organizations, and he especially loathes the idea of religious ones servicing the dispossessed.

Indeed, he sees in Mother Teresa the very embodiment of altruism, a virtue he cannot—with good reason—fully comprehend.

The man makes himself look like a fool. How absurd. Go ahead and keep talking.

who’s christopher hitchens?

i don’t know him so he must be unimportant

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, pray for Christopher Hitchens that the Holy Spirit will touch his heart and help him to see Our Lord through the witness of the faithful here on earth and the saints in heaven. Amen.

Chistopher Hitchens is the icon of iconoclasm. He’ll take up any position so long as it’s contrary to public opinion. That’s how he makes his living. He admits it. Nothing he says or writes is of any value to anyone but Christopher Hitchens.

Yes, keep talking Hitchens. And someone make sure the man has a microphone! Let the world see how atheism darkens the mind. Our Blessed Mother Theresa - a light to the world - has overcome the world by the power of Christ, and her rewards keep increasing! God is good.

Why do tv people even give him airtime?
Blessed Mother Teresa would forgive him and pray for him…
I would not…that’s why I am not a saint and she is…

This seems to be somewhat of a hobby of his. He’s been singing this same tune for years now, primarily based on what he sees as accumulation of millions of dollars that could have been (but was not) spent on the poor. I think he felt his case was bolstered when one of the Sisters who had accounting responsibilities for the order left over this very issue. Who can really say if the accusations are true or not without access to the books?

Perhaps that is were he is coming from, but it is flawed. New convents/monasteries will generate more donations and additional revenue and also help more people in different parts of the world. There is no logic in his statements, he isn’t actually analyzing this, he is just flinging whatever mud he can find.

Recent article discussing why atheists hate Mother Teresa and the origins with Hitchen’s. Written by an atheist.

Chris Hitchens is a polemic, which is defined as a “person who argues in opposition to another; controversialist.” Appropriately, the word comes from the Greek “polemikos”, which means “warlike” or “hostile”.

He is a favored columnist for left-wing intellectual* publications, such as Vanity Fair and The Atlantic.

*- using this label broadly :stuck_out_tongue:

Vanity Fair? Yeah, I’d say very broadly. Hitchens used to work for The Nation, a leftist publication, before it became unfasionable. He is the journalistic equivalent of Paris Hilton.

But I though Perez Hilton filled that role.

 In 20 years millions of people will still know and love Mother Teresa but no one will remember Christopher Hit…, ur Hcht…, ur Hitlch…, ur - no wait, I’ll remember, uh, Hutch…, no no wait I used to know this…

With enemies like that, who needs friends? :stuck_out_tongue:

Does anyone know how Dennis Miller responded to that being said on his show?

Hitchens v. Donahue

Christopher Hitchens and Bill Donohue have a very lively debate about Mother Theresa.

This is not that complex. The man has a right to his opinion as long as we live in a free society. Let him have his opinion. This does not mean that people have to agree with him. Some will and most will not. There are more important news items in this world.

Christopher will learn the truth at the particular judgment; I hope he changes his tune before he gets there or he will be learning a hard and eternal lesson.

I recommend you google Denish D’Souza and listen to his 90 minute debate with Christopher…I think you will agree that Denish kicked is athiestic butt. During the debate Hitchen’s took a couple of shots at Mother Teresa. I find the guy a real bore, tired rhetoric, emotion based arguments, etc.

We should pray for this man.

God Bless,

Iowa Mike
