Church Teaching on Darwinism & Evolution

I perform Catholic Ministry at Alexander Correctional Institution on the first and third Monday of each month. One of the inmates recently asked “What is the Church’s understanding of Darwinism and evolution?’”. My understanding is that the Church teaches there is no contradiction between faith and science. In fact faith and science support each other. The Human body has evolved over time but the human race did not evolve from the apes. If anyone could provide additional information I would be very grateful. Thank you.

If anyone could provide information on Church teaching of Darwinism and evolution I would be grateful. I am going to AXCI tomorrow and would like to be able to provide this information to the inmates. Thank you.

As far as I know, Catholics are free to accept or reject Darwin and evolution. No compulsion either way.

There is no church teaching on Darwinism or evolution either way.
