Church teaching on feeding tubes?

I was wondering if someone could point me to any relevant Church documents about this? Are feeding tubes considered extraordinary measures? My gut says no, but I need to know for sure for someone I know’s sake.

Also please keep a friend of mine in your prayers. Her son is in a comatose state. He’s on a feeding tube and they are considering taking him off. :frowning: I know that would be wrong, but someone told her that the Church said its ok, and now she’s seriously considering it. We’ve tried to talk her out of it, but she’s in a bad place right now, she really needs prayers. Pray that God will give her the wisdom and strength to get through this. I’m really scared for her. :frowning:

Take a look at this document, from the US Catholic Conference of Bishops:
old.usccb.org/prolife/issues/euthanas/anhQ&A.pdf

Gist: assisted feeding is considered ordinary, not extraordinary care.

I will pray for your friend and her son.
