Coffee or coffee? The answer is Coffee!

Arose at 8:15, still achy and exhausted from on-going shovelling after our weekend blizzard. I put the kettle on, retrieved the coffee from the freezer where it lives between uses, spooned a scoop and a half of ground beans into the press, covered in boiling water and let sit for five minutes. While it was working I made a peanut butter and honey sandwich on fresh white Wonder Bread, (my usual morning fare), peeled an orange and got my handful of prescription pills ready. Pressed the grounds to the bottom, poured the resulting nectar into a twenty ounce mug and stirred in Coffee Mate and sugar. An aromatic bouquet was immediately apparent with my wife, calling from the next room, “what is that awful smell?” This is normal.

The resulting drink was most delightful and I may do this again soon. But being a hardened tea drinker it may be a month or two. Perhaps I’ll target Christmas morning as a suitable occasion for the next brewing.

Recently, my 15 yo grandson has discovered the delights of a morning cuppa. My coffee pot hold two large servings of coffee of which I usually drink both…now, I get my big cup and he has a “normal” sized cup with me. I just top mine off with what’s left.

He’s so dang cute, sitting in our robes enjoying our coffee with no conversations…just the occasional ahhhhs as we share our new morning ritual! His mother…my daughter…never developed a taste for coffee. Where did I go wrong?:scream:. At least I’ve assured the coffee love will continue in our family tree. :innocent:

My almost 18 year old sister does not like coffee. My almost 17 year old one does. Keep in mind, they were born when I was a teenager. I’m trying to wonder how the older one (who, by the way, legit looks eleven), ended up not liking coffee.

I think it is a genetic flaw…I blame my husband because I always blame him for anything wrong with our children! :joy:. My husband does also love coffee but his brother doesn’t…so the genetic flaw MUST be on his side of the family! My son also loves coffee so he must have gotten my good genes!. His daughter also loves coffee.

I have one more grandchild to go. She’s only 11 so her coffee taste isn’t apparent yet. I don’t think she’s even tried it yet…she still loves her milk, especially chocolate milk…I can bribe her with chocolate milk!:blush::blush:. That’s fine, she shouldn’t be drinking coffee yet anyway.

I realize that coffee seems to be an acquired taste but I just can’t understand someone NEVER acquiring it! It’s so yummy!

After my last contribution to this topic I asked my wife and daughter about it. I knew my wife didn’t like coffee but I had never asked Carolyn since she has lived away from home a few times and is currently back here finishing up her college degree. I turns out they estimate a combined total between them of one teaspoon of total lifetime coffee consumption. In other words, their first cautious sip was their last. My wife doesn’t like tea either and takes only hot chocolate if she feels the need for a hot drink which is not often. She and I both grew up in tea households though both our sets of parents would serve coffee when there were guests, but this was not often either. So sheltered. LOL

It’s funny, my mom and her whole side of the family are British. She loved both tea and coffee…coffee in the morning and afternoon tea were her must haves. Mom let me drink tea so I developed a Tate for it while still living at home but she never gave me coffee. I still drink tea just like she did, no cream, no sugar. Coffee for me came in college and I still drink it sweet and light. I can drink black coffee but it’s not my preferred taste. I can’t stand tea sweetened or with milk…even ice tea is straight tea. Mom also taught me how to brew tea properly with leaves. I had to trial and error to make good coffee! I guess I got good enough at coffee as my college roommates always had me make it! :joy:
