Cohabitation/scandal question

#1

Would it be cohabitation if you were rooming with your sister? How about if the siblings owned and lived in the same house together but living in differant rooms? The catechism really hasn’t been able to help me with this.

Thank You

Didn’t you grow up the same house?
Is it “cohabitation” for all siblings to grow up in the same house?
What about a 1 bedroom houses with 8 kids in it?

I think you need to define “cohabitation” in order for your question to make any sense.

The definition of the word does not necessitate sexual relations. I co-habitate with budgies. There is no scandal whatsoever for a brother and sister to share accomodations, as long as they are not having sex. What other people think should have no bearing on a clean conscience.

We are called to avoid scandal, but only insofar as it is reasonable to do so. If a brother and sister are sharing a residence, neighbors may initially be unaware of the familial relation. However, it is also on their conscience to attempt to find out the situation before jumping to conclusions.

There is nothing wrong with living with one of your siblings. The reason you didnt find help in the Catechism is because it is not even an issue for discussion, nobody would say it is wrong to live with one or more of your siblings.

What would make you think there is a problem with this??

when brothers and sisters live in the same house, that is called a family, I think. I think the Catechism has ruled that families are OK.

Now, incest is a different kettle of fish. I would think that if the house had more than one room, the brothers and sisters would be living in different ones, but, then, that’s just me talking.

I don’t think this issue is subject for discussion. What’s wrong with siblings living together??
I share a room with my brother and sister…it is perfectly normal to us…if anything it has made us closer to one another, we have a stronger bond.
And you should not listen to what other people might think, He who watches you in silence knows your intentions and the purity of your heart, it is His opinion we should care about.

God Bless,
Rana.
