I Northern Ireland most people now use condoms…protestant and roman catholic…
Most of my roman catholic friends use them but are unwilling or unable to state church views on this…
Can it be inforced? Only by God Himself.
We the Created of God, are morally obligated to know and apply His teachings.
“A failing civilization can’t be argued out of its failing. It can be led, perhaps, or inspired, or converted and reformed. But argument requires the application of universal truth to the particular truth of the moment, and when a culture is tumbling downward, all truth and facts, indeed, that whole idea of truth and fact and argument, are increasingly what people increasingly disbelieve.” Quoting Benedict XVI, GW/GC219
The Catholic catecheism explains quite well God’s position on the matter.
2351 **Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.
**2370 **Periodic continence, that is, the methods of birth regulation based on self-observation and the use of infertile periods, is in conformity with the objective criteria of morality. These methods respect the bodies of the spouses, encourage tenderness between them, and favor the education of an authentic freedom. In contrast, “every action which, whether in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible” is intrinsically evil:
2518 The sixth beatitude proclaims, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” “Pure in heart” refers to those who have attuned their intellects and wills to the demands of God’s holiness, chiefly in three areas: charity; chastity or sexual rectitude; love of truth and orthodoxy of faith. There is a connection between purity of heart, of body, and of faith:
CCC #2362 “The acts in marriage by which the intimate and chaste union of the spouses takes place are noble and honorable; the truly human performance of these acts fosters the self-giving they signify and enriches the spouses in joy and gratitude.” Sexuality is a source of joy and pleasure:
The Sixth and ninth Commandments: “You shall not commit adultery and you shalt not covet thy neighbor” summarize in an economy of words, Gods teaching, God’s intent.
“Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The education of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative teachings.” CCC #1783
There have been to beautiful and comprehensive Encyclicals on this issue: On July 25th 1968, Pope Paul VI dropped a seemingly more devastating “bomb.” Hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of souls have been lost, and more continue to be lost everyday because of disobedience. What did he do? He wrote us a directive called Humanae Vitae. The letter stated again, truths and facts long known and accepted. But these were “new and different times.” Sure, Christ is our Creator, but did He give us a free will so “we could decide what is best for ourselves?”
And in 1980 The Late Great John Paul II issued Evangelium vitae, The Gospel of Life
18 … Decisions that go against life sometimes arise from difficult or even tragic situations of profound suffering, loneliness, a total lack of economic prospects, depression and anxiety about the future. Such circumstances can mitigate even to a notable degree subjective responsibility and the consequent culpability of those who make these choices, which in themselves are evil. But today the problem goes far beyond the necessary recognition of these personal situations. It is a problem which exists at the cultural, social and political level, where it reveals its more sinister and disturbing aspect in the tendency, ever more widely shared, to interpret the above crimes against life as legitimate expressions of individual freedom, to be acknowledged and protected as actual rights.
God DEMANDS to be the author of LIFE and DEATH issues
Both of these documents can be down loaded fron the net.
What is really all we need to comprehend on the issue. God Himself reserves to ONLY Himself all issues relating to life and death, are we to tell God:'Mind your own business?"
Gen. 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it;
Deu. 32: 39 "Learn then that I, I alone, am God, and there is no god besides me. It is I who bring both death and life, I who inflict wounds and heal them, and from my hand there is no rescue.”
Wisdom of Solomon 1:13 “For thou hast power over life and death; thou dost lead men down to the gates of Hades and back again
Bottom line, God wants to be in charge of our lives.
