If Minnesota is hit, I dare them to try it one more state over to the west. Just try calling in sick, and I will be down at the school and the superintendent's offices to file complaints and leave more than a few voicemails and emails protesting your dereliction of duty as a PUBLIC servant. I'm sure I will be only one of thousands of parents affected.
Just try it, you NDEA cronies who would snub a Teacher of the Year just because she wasn't a union member.
Just remember, if vouchers or other form of tax credits were in use to level the playing field, our Catholic schools would be bursting with students, and new private schools would crop up everywhere. Your system is only dominant because it is protected. But it is nowhere near irreplaceable.
The teacher was not a member of NDEA; in other words she was a "freeloader". If I as a member of NDEA found out that they were allowing her in to the "social", I'd be the first one to file a complaint with the union; I wouldn't want anyone who was anti-union/non-member to be part of something that my union/association dues went for.
She'd do better to appear at the NRTW (National Right-To-Work) annual meeting instead. :)
