I’m a history geek and former member of the Society for Creative Anachronism. I’m down with royalty and kingship. The problem with Christian kings is that over the centuries, they went from the idea of uniting their will to Christ to the idea that God wanted what they wanted because they wanted it.
I also REALLY dislike how Americans don’t know anything about the rules and obligations between a royal and a common. Here’s something I posted on my FB page on the issue:
Far too many Americans have no idea what is involved in the idea of royalty. Christ is no longer King, He is now the CEO. God is no longer the High King (King over all other Kings); He is the Founder of our church, or worse, the Founder Emeritus, whose portrait is in the entryway and to whom we are grateful, but we’ve decided to move His Church .in a new direction.
Jesus the Christ is my King. It is to Him that I pledge my fealty. Matthew 25:35-36 is in fact the servant’s part of a fealty oath. The King, in turn, promises to make sure the servant is fed, housed, and clothed; and in addition, the King promises to lay down His life protecting His servants.
He has kept His side of the oath. If Jesus truly is our King, it is our duty to fulfill our part of the oath.
Have you sworn fealty to YOUR King?
