Dante's Inferno Test - Impurity, Sin... and Damnation

Take the Dante Inferno Hell Test: - if you dare!
(Most people report they made it purgatory)

A heavy thunder breaks the deep lethargy within your head…

…causing you to upstart suddenly, like a person who by force is awakened. Before you stands an enormous gate with an inscription that reads:

“Through me the way into the suffering city,
Through me the way to the eternal pain,
Through me the way that runs among the lost.
Justice urged on my high artificer;
My maker was divine authority,
The highest wisdom, and the primal love.
Before me nothing but eternal things were made,
And I endure eternally.
Abandon every hope, ye who enter here.”

Some of those are hard to answer (i.e., marital relitions - I’m one of the rare few that is unable to have any – born that way).

i.e. - (dotted out becuase I don’t like writing the word.)

Would you sooner go without … than go without good-tasting food?

The first is impossible for me due to the way I was born, so I have no idea of how to answer that…

Purgatory

You have escaped damnation and made it to Purgatory, a place where the dew of repentance washes off the stain of sin and girds the spirit with humility. Through contrition, confession, and satisfaction by works of righteousness, you must make your way up the mountain. As the sins are cleansed from your soul, you will be illuminated by the Sun of Divine Grace, and you will join other souls, smiling and happy, upon the summit of this mountain. Before long you will know the joys of Paradise as you ascend to the ethereal realm of Heaven.

Purgatory…
And I need to work on my sloth and gluttony of the 7 deadly sins.

Purgatory

Here is how you matched up against all the levels:

The wretched King Minos has decided your fate. His tale wraps around his body 5 times.

**The sweet light no longer strikes against your eyes. Your shade has been banished to… the Fifth Level of Hell! **

Fifth Level of Hell

The river Styx runs through this level of Hell, and in it are punished the wrathful and the gloomy. The former are forever lashing out at each other in anger, furious and naked, tearing each other piecemeal with their teeth. The latter are gurgling in the black mud, slothful and sullen, withdrawn from the world. Their lamentations bubble to the surface as they try to repeat a doleful hymn, though with unbroken words they cannot say it. Because you lived a cruel, vindictive and hateful life, you meet your fate in the Styx.

That’s four levels lower than last time; more or less what I expected

Purgatory.

There’s one question that asked if you repent of your sins. I wonder if that automatically sends you to Purgatory?

Hmm, Pugatory…

Is that good or bad, for me?

Well, considering even the saints had to breeze through Purgatory, I’d say it’s good!

Purgatory

I didn’t like some of the questions.

Like:

  • Are you overweight?
Do you eat at restaurants several times a week?
Do you love to shop for yourself, even when you don’t need anything new?*

I have no idea why these questions would be asked.

You might ask:
*]How does it compare with your previous performance (if any) ?

*]How did you score on each particular sin ?
A drawback with the test is that it judges one by overall sinfulness - not by one’s performance, sin by sin, as well. ISTM that a really accurate judgement would need to take account of both. OTOH - I’m not God, or an accountant, or even a statistician LOL

I guess they want to know if a person is gluttonous, proud, or envious.

Has to do with the capital sins of gluttony and sloth (laziness) and also the fifth commandment, Thou shalt not kill. By the fifth commandment we are commanded to properly care for our own spiritual & bodily well being.

Has to do with the capital sins of avarice & gluttony

Has to do with capital sins of pride, avarice and envy, and also the tenth commandment, You shall not covet your neighbour’s goods.

Glad to be of help!

That is one way to interpret the questions. However - I can think of many reasons people would eat at a resteraunt several times a week - not due to gluttony.

Another question delt with depression. I have known a few people that have gone through depression because of a chemical imbalance.

I just felt many of the question were blanket questions.

Sorry - I don’t mean to be a party-pooper.

interesting test! my wife scored this:

Here is how you matched up against all the levels:

Purgatory Repenting Believers Very High
Level 1 - Limbo Virtuous Non-Believers Very High
Level 2 Lustful Low
Level 3 Gluttonous Very Low
Level 4 Prodigal and Avaricious Very Low
Level 5 Wrathful and Gloomy Low
Level 6 - The City of Dis Heretics Very Low
Level 7 Violent Very Low
Level 8- the Malebolge Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers Low
Level 9 - Cocytus Treacherous Low

i scored this:

Purgatory Repenting Believers Very High
Level 1 - Limbo Virtuous Non-Believers Very High
Level 2 Lustful Low
Level 3 Gluttonous Low
Level 4 Prodigal and Avaricious Very Low
Level 5 Wrathful and Gloomy Low
Level 6 - The City of Dis Heretics Very Low
Level 7 Violent Low
Level 8- the Malebolge Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers Low
Level 9 - Cocytus Treacherous Very Low

it could have been a great test if it included questions on a good standard examination of conscience, rather than dwelling on things that are not necessarily sinful. Depression is not a sin, thinking of suicide is not necessarily a sin. Eating in a restaurant is not a sin. Shopping is not a sin.

These tests are only made up by mortals. They are supposed to be entertaining, not taken too seriously. And all those things you mention can become vices if taken to the extreme. Some of them are based on the capital sins.

How cute, banished to the 7th level. These are always so amusing.

Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
Level | Score
Purgatory | Very Low
Level 1 - Limbo | Very Low
Level 2 | Extreme
Level 3 | Moderate
Level 4 | High
Level 5 | Very High
Level 6 - The City of Dis | Low
Level 7 | Extreme
Level 8- the Malebolge | Very High
Level 9 - Cocytus | High

Interesting this doesn’t match up with what they said!

More than a year ago I scored a level 7!!! My friends got a 9, so I teased thenm on that.
I am happy to say that now I have scored Purgatory! Woo-hoo!

Straight to the 2nd circle. Good thing I made confession this afternoon.
