Did Cdl. Ratzinger obstruct the sex-abuse inquiry in the US?

Did Pope Benedict XVI, when he was Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, really obstruct sex abuse inquiry in United States?

No. Those in the media making the allegations demonstrate that they have no idea how the Church handles internal investigations. Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger’s letter was a public document, readily available for quite some time on the Vatican’s own web site, and so could not possibly have been intended to derail a sex-abuse inquiry.
