Did Jesus come to reform Judaism or begin a new church?

Hello. The deacon this past Sunday stated that Jesus came to reform Judaism, not to start/begin/found a new church. I have never heard this before, and I am struggling to find support for the viewpoint in the Bible and the Catechism. Can Jesus’ mission be interpreted this way?

Thank you!

The deacon has made a serious error. Jesus came to FULFILL Judaism. He founded the Church to continue His work in doing this. The pastor should be notified about this very basic error, preached from his pulpit. If he doesn’t respond, I would write the bishop.
