Do people who have had vasectomie's go to hell?

#1

Last year I had a vasaectomy. I have always had bad feelings about what I have done. I am really not sure of the consequences I will face (like going to hell) but I am at least responsible for my actions. Can anyone settle my fears? :frowning:

Go to Confession.

We can do little to settle your fears, Christ can do everthing!

Like all sins, it is forgivable. Also, assuming you are absolved, I don’t believe there is an obligation to reverse the vasectomy.

I heard this very topic last week on a Catholic Answers Live broadcast. The guest speaker said you need to be repentent, realize the error of that decision and confess the sin. You are not obliged to reverse the procedure, and the sin can be forgiven like any other mortal sin.

Repent (sounds like you have) and fear not. Trust in the forgiveness Jesus offers us through the sacrament of Reconciliation.

Peace,

I agree with previous posts and was only wondering if you knew it to be a sin at the time you had the operation?

Although, you are not obliged to reverse the procedure, many people do and say that they are glad that they did.

Contrition for the sin is of course required, and then Confession. There is no requirement to reverse, but you might want to look into it. Visit www.omsoul.com, they have great resources on contraception including vasectomy and stories of men who have had the reversal and are very glad they did.

Perhaps now you know it might have been the wrong decision. But go to a Priest and confess–let it be–and let it be gone–God forgives you–now you must forgive yourself and get on with your life. You still have plenty to give and much of life to live.

God Bless You~~

My husband also had a vasectomy. Since this time I have had guilty feelings about it and have gone to confession. I actually went twice about it. The first time the priest told me that I could be absolved of the sin, but that each time we became sexually active I would have to go to confession. I thought a lot about this and figured he must have misunderstood my situation (I had left the Church for a while and did not think I had to follow the Church teaching on this). So I went back to another priest and he told me the same thing. He suggested that I gently discuss the possibility of a reversal with my husband. This is a real difficult position to be in. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
