Do saints bypass purgatory?

Does being a saint mean that you don’t go through purgatory? Or does it just mean you are now in heaven after going through purgatory? What is the teaching of the Church on this issue?

The Church doesn’t say whether canonized saints have experienced purgatory. All it says is that those whom the Church has formally recognized as saints are now in heaven. Whether there was some purgation en route is not something we have been given to know in this life.
