The number of Arab powers whose armies retained senior commanders who were either detached from the British military or retired members of it is quite considerable. The more professional militaries in the region were often trained originally historically by such individuals or they had major input into how the armed forces of new nation states were set up.
The modern nation state has nothing to do with the Biblical kingdom.
Israel has a right to exist and exert it’s will on the territory and people under it’s control and influence because Israel has beaten it’s enemies militarily and has the ability to enforce that control and influence.
One thing I remember is that the build up of Jews in the region began about 50 years before (generally speaking) and was done so via real estate purchases from Palestinians.
The UN, of course, was the main impetus behind the current state.
It would be mistake to equate Muslim with Palestinian, no few Palestinian leaders have been Christian, including George Habash. Christians are a minority amongst Palestinians but they have been quite prominent at times politically for a variety of reasons. Habash was regarded as a major and heroic figure by Palestinians and I recall when he died three days of national mourning were declared by the Palestinian authority.
To be honest were I Jewish I would have fought fiercely for an Israeli state, after the horrors of WW2 and the Shoah I would be disinclined to ever trust the western European powers too far again, that includes the US, UK as well as those who perpetrated the massacres and killings.
I would disagree, all the land belongs to God, we are temporary custodians.
33 " 'When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. 34 The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.
21 “You are to distribute this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. 22 You are to allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the foreigners residing among you and who have children. You are to consider them as native-born Israelites; along with you they are to be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel. 23 In whatever tribe a foreigner resides, there you are to give them their inheritance,” declares the Sovereign LORD.
You are to have the same law for the alien and the native-born. I am the LORD your God.
"Do not mistreat an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in Egypt.
Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.
That sounds great in theological discussions but when it comes to pragmatic solutions within the realm of geopolitics it doesn’t really make a difference.
On top of that, the palestinian’s are exactly peaceful foreigners residing in a nation. They’re a hostile group who keeps killing Israeli’s, they don’t get afforded the same treatment.
And the British were the legal custodians at the time, so they had the right to decide who to turn it over to.
What’s it say about when a people living in your land launch rockets at people’s homes, suicide bomb shopping centers, and stab people at places of worship?
Palestinian’s are a hostile threat living within Israel’s borders. They don’t get afforded the same niceties as peaceful foreigners. That this even needs to be said demonstrates the disconnect from reality the pali sympathizers live under.
Some Jews and Jewish Rabbis say that Israel has no right to exist and Israel should not exist.
Other non-Jews, while condemning anti-semitism, say the same:
I’m really uncomfortable with linking being against Israel with being anti-semitic, its a bit of a low blow
Al Akhbar is an Arab or Muslim website. Obvious from the name. Of course they will not be in favor.
People say Israel should not exist. Then what alternatives do you suggest? A lot of countries and governments have committed bad things, why should they exist?
It is like a woman who is pregnant and does not want it. Since abortion is not an option, it could be to bring him to term and have the baby be adopted. Lots of whining but no suggestions offered.
They call for a non-Zionist democratic country. Arab citizens cite 50 laws which discriminate against Arab citizens of Israel.
Discriminate? Try being a non Muslim in Saudi or in some other Muslim country. And yet you are complaining about Arabs being oppressed in israel? Muslims are one of the most vindictive types, former Muslims say so.
First of all you asked me about the alternative to Israel. For that question it is possible read about the one state solution or the opinions of Rabbi Yisroel Weiss.
Secondly, I am not complaining about anything. I said that there are reports that Arabs cite 50 laws which discriminate against Arab citizens of Israel. For that you can read the Discriminatory Israeli law database published by Adalah and the report published by the US Department of state and the Bureau of Democracy, human rights and labor.
Their opinion is irrelevant. Israel is a country, it exists. It has the means to enforce its existence.
Since there are no neutral players to form a committee to set up the boundaries of a two state solution, why not go for the one state solution? You simply create one unitary Israeli-Palestinian state which includes the territory of Israel, the West Bank, the Gaza strip and the Golan Heights.
We already have that, it’s just called Israel.
The Israeli’s conquered that territory in a war of defense against Arab aggression, it is rightfully theirs.
Yes, that is why this proposed approach is supported by so many people both inside and outside of Israel. All that is needed now is to give citizenship and equal rights in the combined region for everyone living in those territories and to tear down any walls, fences or barriers
within the expanded and combined territory.
What exactly is Palastine? Historically who were the Kings of Palastine?
