Does a memorial Mass have to be said on a particular date?

The date is fast approaching that marks one year since my father passed away. I have asked for Mass to be said on that date but my parish said the date is already “taken.” While quite disappointed, should I accept another date for his Mass? I know you can offer Mass at any time but this is a particularly meaningful anniversary.

Dates for Masses are usually reserved far in advance. I can only recommend that you accept the date offered to you and then put in a reservation for another Mass to be offered on your father’s anniversary next year.
