Does a renewal of vows consititute a validation of our civil marriage?

My husband and I visited A Catholic Church in Texas they asked if anyone was celebrating an anniversary that week to please stand. We did they then asked the couple to come forward to the alter we did we then had our vows renewed. WOW we were blessed! My question is does this make our marriage acknowledged by the church as we had not had our vows blessed or renewed thru the church before that we had never had a wedding. We only had a justice of the peace sign the marriage licence as that was all we could afford. We have been married for 8 years now so it was a blessing to us to have that happen.
