Does God kill people?

How should a Catholic answer a non-Catholic who says that God kills people? He cites the story of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11), and numerous examples from the Old Testament.

[So you’ll know the context of the controversy, this question came up after I objected to our 17-year-old son’s playing a video game in which the players kill terrorists.]

Dear Cathy,

God is the creator of all life. He alone has the right to take life. Of course He kills people—in the sense that He calls them home! That we have to die in order to return home is the result of original sin.

This is another example of human beings forgetting that God is God and we are small potatoes! Since we are not God, we do NOT have the right to kill people—with the exception of self defense and protecting the innocent.
