Does the Catholic Church recognize my daughter's Lutheran sacraments as valid?

#1

Hello,

I am a Cradle Catholic now practicing Lutheran. I am considering coming back to the Catholic Church. My daughter attended a Wels Lutheran elementary school and now is a sophmore at a Wels Lutheran High School. She has been Baptized and recieved first Communion and Confirmation in the Lutheran church. I would like to know if the Catholic Church considers all of these sacrements valid.

Thank-You.

Dear friend,

The Catholic Church recognizes as valid, Lutheran baptism and marriage between Lutherans. Early on when Lutherans dropped the belief in the sacrificial nature of the celebration of the Eucharist, according to Catholic theology, their ordinations became invalid. The Eastern Orthodox never dropped such belief and their sacraments as recognized as valid by the Catholic Church even today.
