Does the Devil exist?

Very little is said about the works of the devil. The society itself promotes evil yet it doesn’t see itself as the Devil’s instrument. Our Church (sermons) rarely speak of the Devil and his deceitful ways so evil goes unnoticed and continues creating havoc in our society. What’s the solution. Everyone praying for the defeat of the evil one and since the devil hates mankind perhaps do good to one another.

The general thrust of your threads is that everyone else in the Church is the problem. Dude, it is you and I.

As to the evil one, he is already defeated, but has been cast down to earth. It is our job to resist him. Only when we resist him is he truly defeated.

Yes the devil exists, and so do demons. And yes they do act in this world. Every time you hear a thought “wow I hate that guy”, that’s the devil whispering it in your ear, making you believe it’s your own idea. Or every time you say “it’s not fair!” about something bad that’s happened to you, it’s the devil whispering it in your ear. And if it’s not directly the devil, and least it’s indirectly, via a demon under his dominion. You think demons just sit around doing nothing? No, they’re attacking us all the time, just it’s often very subtle.

And that’s exactly the way Satan wants it to be.

Our Church (sermons) rarely speak of the Devil and his deceitful ways so evil goes unnoticed and continues creating havoc in our society. What’s the solution.

The more we learn about Christ, the more we emulate Christ, the easier it becomes to detect evil. So it isn’t a question of “more sermons about the devil”. Rather, it should be “how can we become more like Christ, so that we may recognize and snuff out evil before it has a chance to take hold in our hearts”.

Everyone praying for the defeat of the evil one and since the devil hates mankind perhaps do good to one another.

Well said. Pray and love one another. The devil has no power in such a world.

, to Pos and Christus

Thanx Null;)

The devil certainly exists. And you hear more of him in some Churches than others. But if you read the Bible, it’s about the same. He is in there to be sure…but how much of Scripture is actually talking about the devil and how much is talking about God?

Yes, it is best to focus on God than on the Devil himself. Although the absence of the Devil in our immediate lives can lead to the absence of sin then Heaven and Hell.

The Devil in his very essence hates Mankind. He is here and is a Liar and a Thief.:slapfight:

Is this really true? Can the devil litteraly put thoughts in my head?

He can not help in salvation, so there is no need to talk too much about him. Father Gabriele Amorth talks to him almost daily though.

Jesus says the devil prefer to stay out of the (lime)light and works in darkness. The devil is already doing so well and need not the publicity. How to defeat him? Walk in the light and don’t detour into the dark alleys.

I once read a book that literally scarred the HELL:eek: out of me. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

maryandjoseph, I can’t say I’ve read the Letter. I may have tried once but didn’t like it. I can’t remember why at this point.

Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty says yes he’s out there. He is a brave Christian voicing freely his belief. We need to witness as he’s doing. :cool:cnsnews.com/news/article/michael-w-chapman/duck-dynasty-s-phil-robertson-there-satan-out-there-evil-one

Yes the devil exist, very little is said about him in the Bible, accept that he was an angel who tempted Adam and Eve, rebelled against God, and is evil. Now you will hear alot of Christians, and even Catholic Christians say, that Satan’s named was Lucifer, he fell and then tempted Adam and Eve, and is still here on earth tempting us. This is all partially correct. The Church, from what I’m aware of, is that you don’t have to believe Satan’s name was Lucifer, I tend to think it was Samael sense that is what the Jews before Jesus and during Jesus taught Satan’s name was. The idea that his name was Lucifer is a misinterpretation in the book of Isaiah. Also, you don’t have to believe he fully fell before he tempted Adam and Eve. I do not, mainly because of the books like the book of Job and ancient Jewish thought on Satan. They taught he was an evil angel, but still in heaven and apart of the heavenly host, but he would accuse us day and night of sinning even though he was the one causing us to sin, and that he was trying to make us get in trouble. I think it was just before or alittle bit after Christ birth Satan fully rebelled and started the war in heaven, so his power over us could still reign because if Christ was born he could redeem us from sin. I am also a Partial Preterits so I believe Satan has no influence over the church now. Support for many of my views comes from Job 1:7 all of the context of Revelation 12, and Revelation 20, and also many other verses.

I think “the Devil” exists only in the Jewish/Christian/Islamic faiths, right?
It’s a belief of the religions.

I don’t think the Devil exists.
I certainly don’t think society “promotes” evil. We punish and lock up those who hurt others. Many people work hard at spreading messages of love.

.

The Catechism affirms the existence of the devil and demons.

391 Behind the disobedient choice of our first parents lurks a seductive voice, opposed to God, which makes them fall into death out of envy. Scripture and the Church’s Tradition see in this being a fallen angel, called “Satan” or the “devil.” The Church teaches that Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: “The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing.”

The devil continues to exist fortunately I’m walking close to our Lord so that fox is now some distance away.

That’s wise.

Even Chinese/Thai Buddhism, Taoism, paganistic beliefs in Malaysia, Indonesia i.e. practioners of “black magic” or bomoh believe in evil spirits. They call upon them to grant them wishes or powers. Who do voodoo practitioners call upon to cast their spells and magic and curses? History is against you. Throughout the ages, people have recognised that there are spiritual powers out there that can harm you.

I don’t think the Devil exists.

How did you know that?

I certainly don’t think society “promotes” evil. We punish and lock up those who hurt others. .

When you legalise abortion and pornography and striptease bars and other sick stuff, that is promoting evil under the guise of freedom, that is free to do what you please no matter how injurious to your body and soul. Do you lock yourself up for doing harm to yourself?

Many people work hard at spreading messages of love

That is good. Doing good is better.
