Dominican Sisters of Mary (Average Age: 24) Grown 1800% Over Last 9 Years (VIDEO)!

The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in Ann Arbor, MI has grown 1800% over the last 9 years. They started with 4 sisters in Ann Arbor, MI just 9 years ago and now they have 71 sisters! The average age of the sisters is 24 years of age. It’s just incredible!

NBC Today Show and NBC Nightly News just did a piece on them this past week. You can watch both videos at the following website. My sister was shown teaching the Trinity to her 2nd grade children in both of the videos. Let me have your input on the videos.

Meet the Sisters…

I haven’t watched the videos, but I love seeing these nuns. They’ve gotten a decent amount of press here in SE Michigan, and they always look so beautiful and pure in their white habits. They’re such a blessing.

Here’s an article from Deal Hudson written on June 19, 2006 in Crisis Magazine…

1400 Percent Growth of Dominican Sisters

Thank You, Jesus.

I’ve met some of these sisters at different conferences on campus here at Notre Dame, since their hometown of Ann Arbor isn’t too far away. They are such beautiful examples of virtuous, consecrated living, enthusiastically following their vocations (and wearing those habits!). I have friends who have visited their convent in Michigan on the discernment retreat who have had really positive experiences.

Other orders should look to them for an example of what is going right in attracting women to the religious life in the 21st century–and it’s not living alone, forgoing the habit, and living a generally secularized life like many other orders apparently think!

Listen Online: Their ‘Prayer for Vocations’ is accompanied by the Sisters Singing…

sistersofmary.org/article.php?id=143

These sisters are amazing – so joyful and full of life! They positively glow!

A large group of them attended one of my son’s high school plays (two or three of the sisters teach at his school in Ann Arbor). When the group glided in, a hush fell over the audience – it’s surprising to see so many young sisters in full habits!

As a result, my Goddaughter (who was in the audience that day) is discerning a vocation with that order.

Listen first to Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s interview of several sisters on 6-21-06. The Sisters address their creative teaching style in the Catholic Schools in Ann Arbor, MI. The interview was excellent!

The program name is “Truth In The Heart” listed above.

Thank God!

This is what happens when we pray for more vocations.

So, let’s keep praying!

Thank you for the link! It is so inspiring to see these young
women embracing religious life! God Bless them!

I love these sisters too! In fact, Sr. Joseph Andrew, one of the foundresses, was my religion teacher (and I taught her flute for a few months!) before she left to begin this order :). They’re all SO wonderful and such a blessing!

Thank you for posting this. My sister and I knew Mother Assumpta when we were boarding students at St. Cecilia Academy in Nashville. Mother was Mary Margaret Long, a senior, and drum majorette of our band. She was beautiful in every way. There were six seniors that were boarders and all of them entered the convent at St. Cecilia’s. The building is still there but they have a new school that is located elsewhere. There is a beautiful grotto there and some of the oldest nuns are buried there. It was used as a hospital during the War Between the States. The students loved watching the postulants and novices who were there and we delighted in watching them hang their veils on a tree and play baseball. Wonderful memories. God bless Sr. Assumpta.

The Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist were in the National News again for the 3rd time this month. Can you believe it?

This time they were on ABC Nightly News on 2-26-06. You can watch the video at the following link…

(Article & Video) Dominican Sisters of Mary article on Catholic News Agency

Ann Arbor, Mich., Aug 27, 2009 / 07:07 am (CNA).- Though the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in Ann Arbor are celebrating the completion of the construction of their Motherhouse, they are already near capacity, with 17 new sisters entering at the end of this week. The community has grown from four sisters to 99 in less than 13 years and shows no signs of slowing down.

The community of sisters, which has an average age of 26, was founded in 1997 by four Dominican sisters responding to John Paul II’s call for a new evangelization.
