Effect of the Fall on the Earth?

#1

Are there any good church writings on the effect of Adam and Eve’s sin on the Earth and the animals?

When did disease and death enter the world?

Will there be steak in heaven?

Please identify your source material and references when replying.

Thanks.

Everything you see around you is the result of fallen nature!
None of us ever known what it is like to be un-fallen, so it’s practically impossible for us to know.
We were born of fallen nature. Only Adam and Eve would know, so why don’t you go ask them?

My suspicion is that a lot was entailed in the fall, and Genesis only gives us a brief summary. When God said to Adam, “Cursed is the ground because of you,” it could be that all of creation was cursed as a result of the fall, which is why we have natural evil as well as moral evil.

Rom.8
[19] For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God;
[20] for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of him who subjected it in hope;
[21] because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God.
[22] We know that the whole creation has been groaning in travail together until now;
[23] and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
[39] nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Col.1
[16] for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities – all things were created through him and for him.
[20] and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

2Pet.3
[5] They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago, and an earth formed out of water and by means of water,
[7] But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist have been stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
[10] But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.
[13] But according to his promise we wait for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Rev.21
[1] Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

“For if by one man’s offence death reigned through one; much more they who receive abundance of grace, and of the gift, and of justice, shall reign in life through one, Jesus Christ. Therefore, as by the offence of one, unto all men to condemnation; so also by the justice of one, unto all men to justification of life” (Romans 5:17-18).
“I will intensify the pang of your childbearing; in pain shall you bring forth children. Yet your urge shall be for your husband, and he shall be your master (Genesis 3:16).”

  1. If anyone asserts that the transgression of Adam injured him alone and not his posterity,[7] and that the holiness and justice which he received from God, which he lost, he lost for himself alone and not for us also; or that he, being defiled by the sin of disobedience, has transfused only death and the pains of the body into the whole human race, but not sin also, which is the death of the soul, let him be anathema, since he contradicts the Apostle who says: By one man sin entered into the world and by sin death; and so death passed upon all men, in whom all have sinned.[8] -Council of Trent Decree Concerning Original Sin 1546

Hope this helps. Thanks and God Bless.

“Now the withdrawal of original justice has the character of punishment, even as the withdrawal of grace has. Consequently, death and all consequent bodily defects are punishments of original sin. And although the defects are not intended by the sinner, nevertheless they are ordered according to the justice of God Who inflicts them as punishments.” Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica

Thanks and God Bless.

Whatever happened to them, anyway?
