Mexico City, Sep 16, 2008 / 01:21 pm (CNA).- The Archbishop of Mexico City, Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera said in his homily on Sunday that the law of ?an eye for an eye is not the way? to solve the problem of violence in the country, and called on Mexicans to embrace ?forgiveness, mercy and reconciliation? in order to confront the current complicated situation.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/catholicnewsagency/dailynews/~4/394431849
well, i think this cardinal was very brave to come out and speak openly about the violence in the mexican culture in his homily.
we live close to the border and the violence from the drug cartels and human
smuggling spills over into our state also. there have been horrific killings done in mexico in the last 7 or 8 years as the competition in the drug cartels becomes greater. it must be terrible to live down in mexico and have to be terrorized by the cartels and worry about the kidnappings.
many government officials and journalists who have spoken out have been silenced.
we should pray for this cardinal that he will not be harmed for trying to encourage people to live in peace and stop the killings.
