I don’t know if this is the right forum. Can someone tell me if fasting in the Church has always been the “one main meal, and two smaller meals which together don’t equal a meal, nothing in between meals” thing? Or are we just wimps in this generation?

in general? the problem is there are, and were, many different types of Fasting.
we just use the same word for all of them so it gets confused.

there is the no water or food type (none, not at all, like the Jews do on the Day of Atonement)

there is the water only Fast

there is the abstain from certain KINDS of food fast (like Lent, when in the middle ages that meant no beast or fowl or eggs or milk… and led to an increase in fishing…)
