Favourite 20th-Century Pope other than Pope Saint Pius X or Pope John Paul II

I know that many people admire Saint Pius X and Pope John Paul II, myself included. They both had many wonderful qualities.

However, I am wondering what other 20th-Century Pope you admire, in addition to these two men of God.

I love Venerable Pope Pius XII!:amen:

Come on people! You need to vote here!

Pope Paul VI

He didn’t cow tow to the liberals and try to “change” the Church teaching on artificial BC. —KCT

Pius XII

John XXIII

Eugenio Pacelli – Pope Pius XII. I pray for his canonization.

(Heck, I wanted to name one of my children “Eugenio Pacelli” but my wife nixed that right away!)

Blessed John XXIII

Paul VI. Lots of people diss him and I usually try to take up for the underdog. It’s also not easy following a beloved and charismatic Pope like John XXIII or John Paul the Great…which is why our beloved Holy Father Benedict XVI has all my prayers.

Anybody else? Come on, I need more voters!

I voted for my main man Pius the XII. He’s the man.

I think Pius was just the most wonderful man and a glorius pope. It’s shameful that people try to smear his name these days.

Come on, let’s make this a popular thread!

John XXIII. I don’t remember Pius although I was in grade school when he was still Pope. John had a human face. Paul was mostly aloof.

Hmmmm…I wonder…[looks at name of this post’s poster]…waits for people to catch on…

Aha, POPE PAUL! Gotcha (JK)

No, it is really Pius XII.

Mine would have to be good old John 23!

Come on, let’s make this one of the most popular polls in the history of the CA Forums!

It was really close for me. I am certain I’d have voted for JP I if he had reigned longer.

Here’s my choice in order:

John XXIII, for Vat2
John Paul I, for potential
John Paul II, for obvious reasons
Benedict XV, for doing his best during WW1
Leo XIII, for his labor encyclical
Pius XI, for his courage expressed through Mit Brennender Sorge
Pius X
Pius XII
Paul VI

John

Paul VI - Humanae Vitae all the way!

I voted for Pius XII because this holy, wise and courageous Pope is so often misrepresented. Many claim he was a Nazi sympathiser, when in fact he was Hitler’s most fervent, constant and courageous opponent. And many depict him as the last bastion of rigid unchanging doctrinaire conservatism before “all those loonies after him brought in all the changes”. In fact the groundwork for the changes, and some of the changes themselves, were made during his reign, and most if not all of the changes would almost certainly have been implemented under him if he had lived longer.

Great answers! Let’s get some more votes!
