FBI Making Inquiry Into Ex-Trump Campaign Manager’s Foreign Ties
NBCNEWS

The FBI has been conducting a preliminary inquiry into Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort’s foreign business connections, law enforcement and intelligence sources told NBC News Monday.

Word of the inquiry, which has not blossomed into a full-blown criminal investigation, comes just days after FBI Director James Comey’s disclosure that his agency is examining a new batch of emails connected to an aide to Hillary Clinton.

…NBC News reported in August that Manafort was a key player in multi-million-dollar business propositions with Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs — one of them a close Putin ally with alleged ties to organized crime — which foreign policy experts said raised questions about the pro-Russian bent of the Trump candidacy.

An FBI inquiry is a preliminary examination that falls short of a criminal investigation. But in this highly charged atmosphere, it has some arguing that Comey is applying a double standard.

He’s a former campaign manager. Hahaha. This is getting hilarious.

#3

It is getting truly silly. Doesn’t Trump’s staff have some unpaid parking tickets or something?

#4

One of them got detention in high school for talking back to the teacher. The other started a food fight…in elementary scho.

I’m not sure why this is hilarious.

It does highlight a pattern, however.

Those connected to Trump have been dismissed before any findings come to public attention or before any charges are laid.

Clinton’s associates, however, seem to be dispensable only after clear proof is made public even though wrongdoing was known all along by the campaign.

Cases in point: Brazile, Creamer, Wasserman-Schultz, Foval.

Even then, many with clearly questionable dealings (the Clinton’s themselves, Podesta, Abedin, among others) continue to be central to the campaign despite those dealings.

It appears that Trump is far better about keeping a clean house than the Clinton’s, despite the attempts of some to saddle him with the guilt of everyone who even makes eye contact with him.

What about the foreign business deals that Biden’s son has in Ukraine?

#7

Manafort has had a long, very shady association with the corrupt, pro-Russian Ukrainian ruling party and other allies of Putin. We should be asking just what influence Russia has had on the election.

The Russian connection is very scary. Between this and the Russia/Wikileaks connection, we should all be most uneasy.

And the (Clinton) Empire strikes back. First round!

#9

That doesn’t count because Biden is one if the “chosen ones” even after he remarked he’d like to punch Trump in the nose. Very Presidential, don’t you think?

#10

I think just knowing Trump brings the great possibility of being of questionable character.

#11

I don’t agree with the way Vice President Biden is advocating violence against Donald Trump.

#12

Didn’t Clinton have some dealings with the Russians…? Signing off as SoS for a uranium deal? About the same time the Clinton Foundation got $2.35 M in donations from the buyer of those mineral rights?

Oops, I guess the NYT is only all pro-Hillary all the time when she’s running for office.

You may want to better check your sources and the significance of the stories you post.

The story appears to be a rehash of a story from several months ago AND it appears to be a step down from the original story. Back then it was reported as a “full-blown criminal investigation,” now it has become an “initial inquiry.”

It appears the FBI’s case is not “going sideways,” but going backwards.

But back to Manafort, and the NBC story, which in retrospect is merely a regurgitation of a CNN report from August 19, which reported the exact same thing over two months ago: the FBI did not comment. Manafort told NBC News “none of it is true … There’s no investigation going on by the FBI that I’m aware of.” He said he had never had ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin, or had dealings with Putin and his government. He said any suggestion of such ties was “Democratic propaganda.”

“This is all political propaganda, meant to deflect,” he said.

Furthermore, it appears that the latest news is actually a step down from the original CNN report: sources told NBC that the FBI review is not a full-blown criminal investigation, but rather an initial inquiry.

To be clear: the FBI have found no connections between Donald Trump and Russia.

In addition there is as much if not more of a case to be made with regard to Hillary’s campaign chair, John Podesta’s, brother’s ties to Russia.

My first thought about a pattern…Quick, look over here and forget about the stuff coming out by the basket loads about Hillary…

There is so much really troubling stuff. But people just don’t see and don’t want to hear…
About the Russians. who took a restart button over there? And who allowed a purchase of a percentage of US uranium??? Just askin’.

#15

You mean “deplorable” or “irredeemable” or just “questionable”???

#16

Putin gave Clinton $140 million.

Read “Clinton Cash”.

Now Putin is complaining he is being blamed for her unsecured emails.

Manafort got hired as a consultant.

Who else got hired and when.

They are desperately trying anything to trash Trump. Look at the statement, "FBI making inquiry into EX-Trump NOT Trump’s Ex- Campaign Manager. It’s not Trump that’s EX !! Did they ask why he is Trump’s Ex- Campaign Manager??? God Bless, Memaw

Thanks for bringing some balance to the Forum !

The idea seems to be that it is unreasonable and possibly illegal for an international businessman to be associated with international business. What is being implied is that Trump’s willingness to keep the peace with Russia is based on him having business ties with them.

The expected shock comes only from the fact that we are a very militaristic nation. We are used to bullying and threatening the world. We are used to blowing up the world. A man like Trump comes along and wants to build rather then destroy and we are supposed to find this suspicious. This says as much about the low morality of the electorate as it does the treacherous media.

We are supposed to find it suspicious that Trump might have financial interests in peace due to business relations. At the same time we are not supposed to find it suspicious that Hillary might have political interests based on her cash payments from foreign nations. If Trump has international dealings it is mutually agreeable deals that benefit both parties. If Hillary has international dealings it is wielding the force of the state on behalf of one party. As usual I’m not worried about Trump but I’m very afraid of Clinton based on what are undisputed facts.

How is an irrelevancy contributing to balance?
