Taiwanese technology giant Foxconn will replace some of its workers with 1 million robots in three years to cut rising labor expenses and improve efficiency, said Terry Gou, founder and chairman of the company, late Friday.
The robots will be used to do simple and routine work such as spraying, welding and assembling which are now mainly conducted by workers, said Gou at a workers’ dance party Friday night.
How ironic! Android army will soon be building Apple idevices! Robots can do repetitive mind numbing tasks over and over again without getting tired or complaining. What ever their task is, you can usually count on the final product to consistently fall into the spec required with out fail. If they do break down, they are easily fixed and don’t require time to convalesce. They never ask for a potty break or need time off for personal tasks. In the end, its hard to argue against that. The only real issue I think we will see in time. For every job lose to something like a robot, that usually will equate to at least one less person with an income to buy the things the robot is making.
How ironic! The Chinese are getting outsourced. At least they are not getting killed at the evil Apple’s plant.
