Fr. Pavone resigns from Trump campaign

A news story on The Wanderer recently reported that Fr. Pavone was urging the US Catholic Bishops to endorse the pro-life party.

Good. Priests shouldn’t be working on presidential election campaigns.

Which party was that? Surely, Father wasn’t talking about either of the two major political parties in the United States. Perhaps he was referring to the American Solidarity Party?

Some would see a Priest’s involvement in the Trump campaign as scandal.

Especially the part about violating canon law.

Some priests included!

As the Democrats have a pro-abortion plank in their party platform, Fr. Pavone actually suggested support of the GOP from the USCCB.

why cant a citizen who happens to be a priest join one side?

Canon Law prohibits it, unless a bishop agrees there is a need. The reason is that a priest needs, in this case to be a father to both Democrats and Republicans, not Republicans only.

but cant he be father to both but still vote for one of them?

Voting is one thing. Taking a very public part in their campaign is another.

I did not realize that a priest can not demonstrate publicly their support that way.
