I tried to find a major news site which covered it, this seems like a reputable site nonetheless.
Well then, I won’t feel so bad when Europe inevitably collapses.
May God protect the Church’s Eldest Daughter from her foolishness.
France, what at mistake you have made in electing socialist Hollande.
Hollande would have nothing to do with gay marriage. That would have to be done through the National Assembly. European Presidents and governor-Generals are typically not very powerful, the Prime Minister is the powerful one
From outside observation though, it seems that the President of France has a lot more influence on policies then, say, the President of Italy (who most people probably couldn’t even name. I had to Google it) or the President of Germany (especially considering that he Chancellor seems to do everything, including foreign relations).
From the article: "President Francois Hollande, who took office last month, had pledged to legalise gay marriage and adoption during his election campaign but had given no timeframe.
Since Hollande’s Socialists won an absolute majority in parliamentary elections two weeks ago, the conservative UMP party, which had opposed the measure under former president Nicolas Sarkozy, can do little to stop it."
Bold emphasis mine.
Now it really will be Le Gay Paree!
Its a fair point, but the new Prime Minister of France is backing the proposal.
France’s new Socialist government is to legalize marriage and adoption for same-sex couples, Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said on Friday, reflecting a shift in public attitudes in the majority Catholic nation.
“The government has made it an objective for the next few months to work on implementing its campaign commitments on the fight against discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity,” Ayrault’s office said in a statement.
In case you haven’t looked around us, america’s swirling down the toilet hole at an equally alarming rate
Why is it that every single economically left-wing party that I hear about in the western world also seems to have the common goal of destroying our moral fabric and rejecting God from our society?
I mean it’s not like Capitalism is a great model for Christian life either, but right wing parties certainly seem to be a lot less hostile towards the Church and christian values at least in the west…
It is the worst economic system in the world, excepting all the rest.
Not surprising.
France is decades away from a major social and political meltdown, if you ask me.
Throught the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
Well, France has a semi-presidential system where the President is the most powerful figure. Only in the case of cohabitation could a Prime Minister emerge strong. Most EU countries have parliamentary systems where the PM is in charge.
True! That’s why I believe we need Catholic political parties, so that Catholics could vote with a clear conscience.
I was pretty much in favour of Hollande since I believe in social capitalism, but I wasn’t aware that this was part of his agenda.
Right, right wing parties are less hostile towards the Church but they aren’t better. So we are pretty much in a dilemma and that’s why I believe it’s high time for a Catholic alternative in all societies.
To be honest the only thing that suprises me is that gay marriage hasn’t be legalized in France already.
In time we will probably see Italy, Ireland, Poland and Malta legalizing “gay marriage” :(.
The question is: God put up with immorality at various periods in the history of mankind, even in the dawn of the Christian era, now that we’ve had close to 2000 years of Christianity, how long will he put up with generalized immorality changed into human rights and Christianity changed into violation of human rights?
There is no stopping this wave of immorality, in time we will see the whole world, save Muslim countries and possibly Russia, follow suit. The question then is : God put up with immorality at various periods in the history of mankind, even in the dawn of the Christian era, now that we’ve had close to 2000 years of Christianity, how long will he put up with generalized immorality changed into human rights and Christianity changed into violation of human rights? What, if anything, will stop this wave, that shows no sign that it’s slowing down, I say rather it’s gaining momentum and speed.
The fact that French homosexual couples will enjoy the same rights and privileges as heterosexual couples with respect to adoption is so wrong. Nobody gave a thought to these children.
Am I the only one to be absolutely amazed at the staggering speed at which public opinion in France has shifted on this issue over the course of a short period of time (2006 to now)? Boy are we on a downward slope…
Huh, just like democracy
Ireland is definitely a country you will see legalise it relatively soon as a number of politicians have already proposed bills regarding this. Including some canny politicians who only propose things when they know it is likely to generate good PR for them.
I agree. The Irish Catholic Church has shot itself in the foot, very badly, and I think it will take a long time to recover its position. In the meantime, politicians are going to take advantage of the popular mood. It is what politicians often do.
