Germany's Merkel says refugees must return home once war is over

#1

German Chancellor Angela Merkel tried on Saturday to placate the increasingly vocal critics of her open-door policy for refugees by insisting that most refugees from Syria and Iraq would go home once the conflicts there had ended.reuters.com/article/us-europe-migrants-germany-refugees-idUSKCN0V80IH

Why would they? :ehh:

#3

Plus there’s really no end in sight to the war. I think Merkel’s just trying to cover her tracks.

#4

Good luck with that!

#5

This is why refugee centers should be in the original neighborhood rather than half way around the world.

#6

Yeah right. I can see them all right now running back to Syria and giving up all the government provided freebies like health care and monetary stipends. This dumb politician has gotten her country into one big mess.

#7

Well, I think if the war ever ended, all those nice govt freebies would be cut off, sort of like getting unemployment benefits, once you find a job, they cut you off, you cant keep receiving benefits.

That would be the easiest way to encourage them to return anyway.

So she is singing a different tune now!

This will be interesting to watch!

Not sure if it deserves its own thread, but relevant:

theguardian.com/world/2016/jan/31/teenage-girl-made-up-migrant-claim-that-caused-uproar-in-germany

A 13-year-old Russian-German girl has admitted making up a story about being kidnapped and raped by migrants in a case that triggered a furore in Germany and briefly embroiled Berlin police in a spat with the Kremlin, state prosecutors said.

The parents of the teenager, named only as Lisa, reported her missing on 11 January after she failed to appear at school in the Marzahn district of the capital. She reappeared 30 hours later with injuries on her face, and told her parents she had been attacked by men of Middle Eastern or north African appearance. News of the incident spread on social media, sparking outrage among Berlin’s Russian-German community.

But when she was questioned by trained specialists three days later “she immediately admitted that the story of the rape was not true”, said the spokesman for the state prosecutor, Martin Steltner.

I think this shows how fragile the situation is. We’re sitting on a powder keg, where even lies from a schoolgirl will trigger fascist violence. Wonder how the refugee crisis will play out in the long run.

They already know >50% of migrants are economic, yet they remain.
I expect most will just remain in Europe even after the conflict subsides. It’s kina late for tuff talk by Germany.

a tad late for Frau Merkel … this has really blown up in her face, no avoiding that.

Geneva Convention. There is a 3 year maximum.
70 % of refugees returned after war in Yuhoslavia in the 90’.
There are now 10.000 missing children from refugees.
Europol is talking about human trafficking and has found criminal networks developed since migrant crisis.
About 5,000 registered children disappeared in Italy and 1,000 in Sweden.
Out of a million refugees about 270.000 are children.Accompanied and unaccompanied.
Peace is so much needed…
