God and Change

I know that God does not change. I was reading writings from a saint and he said “God is merciful for a season; then he punishes”. Does this suggest that God changes? Please help.

God CAUSES change, but His nature, being eternal, does not itself change.

Show us the quote so that we can read in context and see what the saint really meant.

We can recieve the gift of God’s divine mercy while still alive to repent. (for a season) But after death we are judged, we are past the point of being able to repent.(punishes)
