"God bless you"

Is it improper or inappropriate for a layperson to use the words “God bless you” when greeting a priest or bishop? Looking through vol. 1 of ‘Faith of the Early Fathers’, I found a reference that advised against a person of lesser stature blessing another person of higher station. Is this true? I’ll be waiting for your answer and meanwhile continue to say “God bless you Father”.

Thank you
