Going to Mass with Sin

It was stated in an early post here in the Ask an Apologist that CCC (I dont remember the number) That one is not to attend Mass or receive Communion while conscious of a mortal sin. I know receiving Communion should not be done, but I didnt know you should avoid Mass altogether. The post was answered by Jim Blackburn

Please enlighten

My previous post stated that one is not to celebrate Mass, which means to say Mass. This part of the canon is directed towards priests. Attendance at Mass is not prohibited.
