Good children's books?

Hello everyone :)

I'm a future teacher (studying to be one right now), and one of my assignments is to look for children's books (grades 1 to 6) that are relatively short and have a good message/moral. These are not just for an assignment but these are books that we'll be able to use later on in our careers. I really want to choose books that would help children learn good values but are also interesting and well written. I was raised in a different culture so I don't really know elementary school books in English... I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations, maybe books that really inspired you as a kid :) the professor said they should be books that are moving and also inspire higher order thinking (not just a fun story).

Thanks so much! God bless
