Goodbye y'all. I'm leaving

#1

So I thought I would come here and see what was going on. I wanted to check in on some old friends. I wanted to see what people were thinking. So far, so I’ve been back (SINCE YESTERDAY!), I’ve been insulted for being a Christian (umm, it’s a Catholic site), I was told to be cautious about my absolutist position on abortion (that it is always wrong, I’m not trying to make friends, abortion is murder, regardless of how the child was conceived). I’ve seen people bash the Pope (umm, it’s a Catholic site), I’ve seen people make flat out false statements about people they’ve never met. Why? Why is there so much vitriol on this site? Where are the mods? Better yet, why are the mods allowing it? I was under the impression that this was a Catholic site, but with the amount of conspiracy theories involving autism (which really irks me, as I am ASD, nothing like getting autistic people on your side by implying that they must be because of a debunked theory) and the Vatican I thought I had landed on Alex Jones’s site… I have a rather severe injury at the moment, I can barely walk. I am in severe pain. I’ve been struggling with a major depressive episode for several weeks. All of my dog’s puppies died. Before you judge someone, look in a mirror. You have no idea why people are the way they are or why they do what they do. I appreciate the people here that have given me their prayers and support, I really do. I’m not leaving again because of y’all. I’m leaving because if I stay, I feel like I’ll lose my mind. God bless y’all. Not looking forward to coming back. Just gonna say that right now.

I’m really sorry that you’re suffering–both mentally and physically.

Sometimes when that happens, it’s all that we can do to deal with those things, and then the other things that we see are like the “straw that broke the camel’s back.” At least, that is how I see it.

Hang in there, and know that I’ll definitely be thinking of you and your family.

God bless you, my friend. :slightly_smiling_face:

Adam,
You were missed. CAF is different and it is a hard adjustment; I think many of us “old-timers” wax nostalgic about the way it was. There are many posters whom I miss (especially BrotherJR) and it makes me happy to see someone who has an understanding of how good it can be. I just saw a post from Lormar today and was thrilled to know she’s on site, now for Truelight!
I am so sorry about your puppies. When I lose a dog, it takes me a long time to be ready for another-I need time to grieve and to dwell in my memories.
I hope you find a time when you would like to come back. Perhaps by then, CAF will have a group capacity like it had in the past and you can start an AdamH is back group for people who want to be kind.
Some ideas for your return which I hope will occur:
Some of the fora are a lot nicer than others-you might want to lurk for a while and see where the kind people hang out. Some of the posters will argue charitably and maybe, by the time you return, the mods will have found a way for us to mute those who are less than charitable. I think such a function would make a big difference.
Making the decision to walk away might be a good mental health strategy, but it is a reminder to us all that we are our brothers’ keepers and we need to work on it. I hope you will come back to find us doing a better job of living up to this charge.
May God bless you and keep you in his constant care.
Amen.

To be honest, there was certainly at least some vitriol on the old CAF prior to the rebooting of the site, at least on World News. I guess that’s to be expected due to the nature of politics, but still.

True, the last month of two prior to the transition was a bit intense.
I do miss the blocking feature though (and this is significant because I do not recall ever using it in the past.)064_grouphug
Ad hominem arguments are being used by posters who used to refrain from such doings.

Yes, if I were new to CAF, I would not start in world news. Posters tend to be pretty entrenched (we need a trench emoji for this).

Adam, I’m really sorry for all the suffering you’re going through.

It sounds like you were reading the wrong threads. I haven’t seen any of what you described. Try staying out of the political and contentious threads and you’ll be a lot happier.

Don’t forget…just because it’s a Catholic site, it’s open to everyone and we can’t control what everyone else posts. I think our mods do a pretty good job trying to stay on top of it all.

I try to be careful which threads I read and respond to, and it’s best to just leave dumpster fires alone.

Prayers for your healing and comfort in your grief.

Dude! Sorry to see you go, but hope you change your mind! Would have liked to have had some thoughtful discussions and have gotten to know you. Been back a short time, myself.

I tend to reply to new topics, so maybe I missed your posts? Yesterday was busy and kept me away most of the day. Praying for your pain, and I’ve also lost dogs myself. My wife and I now have three.

I am sorry to hear of your puppies not surviving, Did they have parvo?

#15

That’s certainly a good reason to leave.

I missed the conspiracy theories about autism. My son has autism, so I know them well. In general, I just shrug it off because I know the person has no idea what they are talking about. That’s my general approach to all the wacky posts I encounter. It makes life here more tolerable. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

There are some really great, and polite, people here, but overall, I find the site to be as you do.

God bless you, @adamhovey1988. I, too, have injuries and pain and sometimes feel depressed because of them. I hope you heal in both body and spirit, and please know, you will be missed here.

I’m so sorry about the puppies. I’m a huge animal lover, especially dogs and cats. To lose one is heartbreaking. I truly hope you have better days ahead.
